Used for drilling holes in hard, tough materials such as stainless steel, titanium high temperature and high strength alloys. High red hardness of cobalt permits speeds 30 percent greater than HSS drills. Cobalt steel tools are similar to high-speed steel, but with more cobalt for improved performance when cutting harder metals such as stainless steel or nickel alloys. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems.
